A historic event has taken place. Due to this fact, and in rememberance of the spirit, this column will be in English.
The United States of America has elected its´ 44th President and his name is - Barack Hussein Obama!
In 1776 the United States of America founded its´ constitution in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Its´ 1st President was George Washington.
In 1864 slavery was abolished by Abraham Lincoln, Republican.
In 1964 Afro-Americans were given their Civil Rights.
In 1968 Martin Luther King gave his speach "I have a dream!"
In 1990 Nelson Mandela was freed after spending 27 years in prison in South Africa. In 1994 he was elected President of South Africa.
In 2008 Morgan Tsvangiray was elected Prime Minister in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe won its´ independence on April 16th, 1980.
And in 2008 the United States of America elected its´ first Black President ever and his name is Barack Hossein Obama!
Many hardships are in head of him. People who are forced to leave their homes, I heard of 1,5 million people, the withdrawal of the troops in Iraq in a reasonable amount of time. He is primarily a US president, taking care of US issues. Negotiations with Iran, with Afghanistan, with North Corea. Oil prices, climate issues, the wind power plants in Arizona (John McCain´s homestate) will perhaps be a national question. The huge deficit in the US economy: as Keynes would have said: spend in low conjuncture, save up in high conjucture. 1932 - 1946 Franklin Delano Roosewelt launched his program New Deal and dealt with the crash of the stock exchange in 1929. Maybe Barack Obama will deal differently, maybe not. The future will tell.
But for now let us rejoice and take comfort in this election. Congratulations on the Presidency - Barack Obama!
